From Marc Yudkoff, M.D., The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia
Dear Melissa and Richard,
I would like you to know that we have performed our first recent liver transplant in one of our MSUD patients. The baby is a 1 year old boy of Mexican ancestry. He harbored an unusual mutation that had not been previously noted. His post-operative course was relatively uneventful. It is a wonderful sight to see him on an essentially unrestricted diet. Clearly, this will not be the last such exercise.
I feel a real sense of indebtedness to both of you. Above all, I feel deep gratitude to Avery, whose dignity ans courage set a memorable example for us all. Please give him a special kiss from me.
Sincerely,
Marc

Dear Richard,
I would like to introduce my self as Nirmal Parmar, father of Mihir. Mihir turned two years old on this July 4th. On this occasion of his birthday I would like to take a chance to thank you and appreciate your efforts for making things possible for my child to get [a] liver transplant.
Mihir is my first and only child. Unfortunely he has MSUD, but he is fortunate to have good people around him to take care of things to make his life a better one. Mihir is blessed to have lot of good people who care and really mean in helping. Help is what my family needs. As a parent we always wanted to give best to our child. In the wake of giving him best treatment from the best doctors in the whole world we left our country and came to the US.
Things were and are bad with the family, but I find myself blessed to have my child give what we always thought of, liver transplant. The help from your foundation is definitely going to benefit Mihir along with that it's going to help a whole family and a young parent to fulfill there dreams. At one instant we found with no assistance and the second we found you.
Dr. Strauss has always supported us in all our situation[s] other than Mihirs illness. Getting support from you is also a blessing for us. People like you, Dr. Strauss, Dr. Morton and many others who have helped us think twice and gives us confidence in what we are doing. It's a challenge raising a MSUD child, but our determination and dedication comes from just thinking of you all being by our side.
At this moment I would like to thank you from bottom of my heart and many regards from my family.

Hi, Melissa,
Great to hear from you. We would love to come at the golf outing. I almost cried when I saw the video message on the website. Words won't describe but let me tell you, you are doing a great job one can do as a human. The biggest thing as a human one can do is to give, you are an example for us and many to live life the way god created us for as humans. In this world we forget our deeds and reason for being humans, but examples set like yours gives us a moment to think and realise what we need to give back.
I was asked a question at our Indian community function about our situation and Mihir and our experience. I mentioned all the people who helped us, AJS foundation and people who made difference in our life. I also mentioned about the great things this country treasures is the people living here. People like you and Drs. like Kevin, Morton, Sindhi, George all others who work to make a difference in life [sic] of others make this country great. The reason we say [the] U.S. is a great country because it treasures people like you.
Once again thank you for what you are doing and I pray [to] god to give you more strength to work the way you are to impact in others life. I am looking forward to meet[ing] you and your family.
Best wishes for your child and your family!
Nirmal and Mital
